Stewartia malacodendron. A large open branched shrub growing to 3 to 4m metres usually but can reach to 9m. A member of the tea family. It has white blooms with ruffled edges and contrasting dark filaments which look like anemone flowers. Flowering late winter early spring. Native to Texas and Virginia it is slow growing and likes deciduous woodland aspect. Give it good winter sun and you will be rewarded with many blooms.
