Osmunda Japonica. Asian royal fern. Is also known as cinnamon fern as it is an edible fern that is well known in japan, though the name is not because it tastes like cinnamon but because of the cinnamon coloured naked spores on the underleaf of the fronds. This is a deciduous fern and each year they unfurl revealing long graceful arching lush lime green fronds. The frond can reach 1m long and half a metre wide. The spore bearing fronds emerge along side the sterile fronds earning them the nickname of flowering fern. Full shade to part shade.
